First we had breakfast at a restaurant near the end of the pier. My sister who was two or three and I had some extra toast that we pinched off pieces and dropped through a grate in the floor and watched fish grab them. I expect that dad held sis while mom and I each got an outside horse. Each time we went around mom reached out and got a ring and actually got the gold ring, good for a free ride. I was too small to reach them.gblackburn999https://www.blogger.com/profile/01981096591830879296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1350406615166417147.post-42089388399483175102024-02-20T11:06:38.204-08:002024-02-20T11:06:38.204-08:00I worked at the LA Daily Journal a few doors down ...I worked at the LA Daily Journal a few doors down summer of 1970, most lunch breaks included a stop at the sandwich bar and an elevator ride- magical. I have a photo taken around 1953 of mom, dad, little brother and Walt in the train engine cab before a trip around the park. Because of the huge popularity of dad's creation as a writer, all five episodes of Davy Crockett, when Fess Parker would ride a horse on Main Street and Frontier Land, that attracted a lot of attention. gblackburn999https://www.blogger.com/profile/01981096591830879296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1350406615166417147.post-89167340793266280222024-02-08T13:36:23.323-08:002024-02-08T13:36:23.323-08:00This must have been posted in 2018 and I just foun...This must have been posted in 2018 and I just found it on 2/8/2024. Studio back lots are interesting. I remember with fondness when my dad was writing the screenplay at Warner Bros. for Colt 45. He invited me to the commissary for lunch and then a tour. There were actors also having lunch, some of whom dad identified for me but no identification was needed to recognize Gary Cooper at the next table with three other people at their table. Walking through hallways heading to the back lot we past office doors with gold lettering for King Vidor, Andre de Toth (who became a friend) and other directors. The back lot was fascinating, including the street, buildings, and huge blank wall at the end. This was where Gary Cooper had a showdown in High Noon.gblackburn999https://www.blogger.com/profile/01981096591830879296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1350406615166417147.post-70137674645579774872024-02-05T14:11:19.243-08:002024-02-05T14:11:19.243-08:00Thanks for the great article! 💕 Hair’s To Ya!

It has taken me awhile to find this particular blog and on the now rare occasions that we travel from the San Francisco bay area to LA, I would like to take this tour. Along with Mexicans, Pacific Islanders and perhaps others, we have Filipinos here at our senior housing facility in Palo Alto that work in health, dining room, kitchen, housekeeping and more. They are all paid above minimum wage, get meals here and other benefits. No matter who they are or where they come from I view it as theft of wages to not be paid for every hour worked. gblackburn999https://www.blogger.com/profile/01981096591830879296noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1350406615166417147.post-73006763665308914182024-01-31T20:16:02.930-08:002024-01-31T20:16:02.930-08:00What an excellent list! In the late 1990s I participated with many others in the Santa Barbara, volunteering our services and goods to raise money to purchase this MAGNIFICENT masterpiece. It was beautifully restored and for years I loved looking at it, painting it, riding it with my daughter and other children and people over the years. I still grieve the day it disappeared, without any notice. Whenever I drive by the empty shell, I feel sad it's gone and just hope it's bringing joy to other people, too.
