This was a torturous mountain road and I expect that it must have been a hot summer day. I saw truck drivers who had opened their door, stepped out onto the running board, closed the door, and standing on the running board were reaching in through the open window to steer as the trucks slowly ground their way up the mountain. Some of the trucks, about half way back on the frame, had a gear driving a chain to turn the rear wheels.
