EVENT: Obscura Day 2015
Photo/Graphics: Los Angeles Obscura Society
In 2010, I flew from NYC to LA specifically to take a tour of California City on Obscura Day. It was my first opportunity to go out and explore the places that I'd mooned over in the Atlas Obscura, which had become my favorite place on the web to plan and dream.
And now I work with them.
And now I have five events in the Greater Los Angeles area, all in one day, for Obscura Day 2015.
The whole day's itinerary is really great, and I'm sad to miss some of my fellow field agents' events, but if you'd like to follow me around for the day, or walk in my shoes for a day, here are your options presented by Field Agent Sandi, reporting for duty:
International Printing Museum 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
The world's largest collection of vintage printing machinery!
Rockhaven Sanitarium 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Where the feeble-minded sought dignified treatment in a peaceful valley
Dapper Cadaver 12-1:30 p.m.
The finest in scientific, death-related, and haunted house props.
Valley Relics Museum 1:30-3 p.m.
Discover the history of the San Fernando Valley from the 1800's to the 1980's.
Private Pinball Party 4-6 p.m.
Where old pinball machines go to thrive.
FREE End of Day Celebration 6-8 p.m.
Share stories with fellow adventurers and field agents while exploring this 10.5-acre park filled with native plants and dazzling views of Downtown LA.
If you were me, you'd jump on that pinball party.
